2019 Glenkeen Pinot Noir Tasting Note
by Damon O'Brien on Aug 26, 2023
Style: Very soft, light red with lovely summer berry flavours. 2 years in the bottle have really mellowed our Pinot Noir allowing some of the secondary characters of earthy cedar and forest floor.
Season: The growing season for the 2019 vintage commenced with a dry winter and spring of 2018, followed by a warmer than average summer. The warmer conditions lead to slightly quicker ripening & earlier picking leaving bright, summer berry focussed fruit.
Source: Picked from three separate blocks across two clones with two different yeasts used to enhance different aspects of the clones. 12 months in older French oak adds the final element of complexity.
Vinification: The grapes from each site were vinified separately. The warmer site was whole punched pressed & the wine was blended just prior to bottling.
Serve: Fantastic on its own, even slightly chilled in our summer months but it will enhance a variety of dishes – our favourites have been wood fired pizza and a duck salad.
Additional information:
Vineyards:
Sourced from three small vineyards in Onkaparinga Valley sub district of the Adelaide Hills. 2 sites have east aspects keeping them cooler while the third site has a westerly aspect producing the richer element of the wine. The warmer site was hand picked.
